Please contact your school today. Send an OPRA request. This is required by law and nothing to be afraid of. Just contact your school and get the email address of the Keeper of the Records. Next send an email similar to the one below: To the Keeper of the Records, or the Custodian of the Records,


Please send me the following information:


• All of the School Board Minutes that mention any of the following terms: LGBT Curriculum, Garden State Equality, pilot program, LGBT history, Inclusion, Gender Identity, and Transgender, between January 2019 through the current date.

• All correspondence (including emails with attachments, and memos) to and from the School’s Superintendent that mention LGBT Curriculum, Inclusion, Garden State Equality, pilot program, LGBT history, Gender Identity, and Transgender, between January 2019 through the current date.

• All correspondence to and from the School Board and its members, that mention LGBT Curriculum, Garden State Equality, Inclusion, pilot program, LGBT history, Transgender, between January 2019 through the current date.


Under the NJ Open Public Records Acts, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1.1 et seq., I am requesting all of the public records above for “YOUR SCHOOL'S NAME School District”.


I am requesting that these records be sent to me via EMAIL, and I understand there is NO FEE for this delivery method. If you incur a cost in excess of $10.00 for copying of these records, please inform me. I understand that the NJ OPRA requires a response time of 7 business days, and I expect a delivery of within the frame the law asserts.

This is a brief overview and some important facts:


Timeline of the LGBT movement in NJ:


December 21, 2006 – NJ State law establishing civil unions


January 2010: TRENTON, NJ – After 90 minutes of debate, the NJ State Senate voted down a bill to legalize same-sex marriage.


December 13, 2010 – CA – Passed the FAIR Act Requiring LGBT History to be taught in public schools


January 6, 2011: NJ State law enacting the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights


February 16, 2012: NJ - A bill, S1, legalizing same-sex marriage in New Jersey, passes both houses of the legislature.


February: 2012 – NJ Governor Christie Keeps His Promise to Veto Gay Marriage Bill


March 26, 2012 – NJ State law funding the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights and creating an implementation task force (the start of discriminating against deeply held religious views and family values in all NJ Public Schools)


June 2013: The federal government began to recognize state-sanctioned same-sex marriages after the June 2013 decision of the United States Supreme Court decision in U.S. v. Windsor.


October 2013: Same-sex marriage became legal in New Jersey in October of 2013.


July 21, 2017: NJ State law mandating that the New Jersey Department of Education provide guidance to public schools about policies for transgender students (This was the first step to strip parental rights in the schools).


November 2017: Murphy wins the NJ election for Governor

THE TEXT OF THE LAW:

CHAPTER 6

An Act concerning instruction and instructional materials in public schools and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

C.18A:35-4.35 History of disabled and LGBT persons included in middle and high school curriculum.

1. A board of education shall include instruction on the political, economic, and social contributions of persons with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, in an appropriate place in the curriculum of middle school and high school students as part of the district’s implementation of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

C.18A:35-4.36 Policies, procedures pertaining to inclusive instructional materials.

2. A board of education shall have policies and procedures in place pertaining to the selection of instructional materials to implement the requirements of section 1 of this act. When adopting instructional materials for use in the schools of the district, a board of education shall adopt inclusive instructional materials that portray the cultural and economic diversity of society including the political, economic, and social contributions of persons with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, where appropriate.

3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the 2020-2021 school year.
